Access & Assessment Centre Clinicians

Curious about how to lead big change?

Are you curious about how to make system wide change? Vancouver Acute & Community Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) services are hosting a conference sharing their process and learnings on the recent service redesign. You can participate in person at VGH, by videoconference or through webinar.

Staff, physicians and leaders from across the Vancouver MHSU system all played a part in the redesign work. And although we did not make changes to all our services the changes we made have had a direct impact across the system. The new MHSU Access and Assessment Centre is the flagship program for the MHSU service redesign. The AAC is the first of its kind in western Canada and improves access to Mental Health and/or Substance Use services in Vancouver. Fully opened in April 2016, the AAC provides 24/7 clinical services to Vancouver resident adults ages 17+ with non-life threatening Mental Health and/or Substance Use concerns. The AAC sees and average of 21 walk in clients a day, makes an average of 80 home visits a week and receives an average of 18 clinical treatment calls a day!

The conference is open to all healthcare staff and physicians across the country. We will use the AAC and our recent redesign as the example of how to Lead Big Change. If you are not from a MHSU program that’s ok! We will be describing how we made these changes in a way that any program can use to make their own improvements. For more information about this event please contact Janice.fyfe@vch.ca. For more information about the AAC please visit our webpage at www.vch.ca/AAC.
