Mottershead family makes huge investment in Lions Gate Hospital
The Lions Gate Hospital Foundation campaign to build a state-of-the-art Medical & Surgical Centre took a giant leap forward thanks to a remarkable and generous donation from West Vancouver couple Ian and Rosemary Mottershead.
The North Shore philanthropists were inspired to join the campaign to bring life-changing care to the North Shore after seeing the critical need to upgrade the acute care facilities at Lions Gate Hospital.
“We have been in this community for a long time and so has Lions Gate Hospital,” says Ian Mottershead, a retired investment executive. “We have seen friends and family treated at the hospital and this has made us acutely aware that we need to modernize the facilities. We hope everyone in the community will come together to help build this advanced centre which will bring better health care for all of us.”
With the donation of $5 million, the historic $100 million community campaign to build the LGH Medical & Surgical Centre now stands at $70 million. The new 200,000 sq. ft. facility will provide 108 private rooms and ensuite facilities in place of the shared wards in the existing 56-year-old tower, high-tech operating rooms that will be able to accommodate the latest medical technology, integrated health information systems and a more therapeutic and family-centered environment.
“Ian and Rosemary have been compassionate and proactive supporters of the hospital and last year they purchased specialty wheelchairs which have greatly enhanced the mobility of some of our most seriously ill patients,” says Judy Savage, President & CEO of LGHF. “This latest donation is a testament to their spirit of kindness and their keen determination to improve life for everyone in their community. This gift will benefit all of us on the North Shore for generations to come.”
