Celebrating “respect every day” on Pink Shirt Day!
Thank you to the many staff and physicians throughout VCH that celebrated the power of a respectful workplace by wearing pink and dropping by our pink tables to show their support. “We wanted to focus on something different this year – respect every day,” said Kathleen Daluz, Manager of VCH’s Respectful Workplace program. “It reminds us all of the importance of demonstrating VCH’s respectful workplace values every day – not just on Pink Shirt Day.”
Here to help
VCH is committed to a bully-free work environment – 365 days a year – and offers confidential conflict resolution services to employees who are experiencing any type of disrespectful behaviour or conflict within the workplace. The emphasis is on finding a compromise to a problem that is suitable for both parties where they will agree to a resolution with the assistance of a trained mediator (HR advisor) who acts as a neutral third party. What is respect?
In 2016, we asked staff to share what respect means to them and these phrases now make up our key respect behaviours at VCH:
- Empathy
- Kindness
- Courage to speak up
- Listening to others
- Recognition
- Including other staff
Thank you to all our dedicated staff for remembering to demonstrate respect in the workplace every day and showing others that these behaviours are a key part of VCH culture.
