Remember this character? It’s coming back as we begin preparation for our next People First: VCH Safety & Engagement Survey. Yes, it’s only six months away!
In June 2013 we will be repeating the Safety & Engagement Survey we took in 2011. Well, almost repeating – the 2013 survey will include:
- The same 12 engagement questions (Gallup’s “Q12”). We can compare our 2013 scores against our 2011 scores, as well as against other health care organizations in BC, Canada and around the world through these standard questions
- The same 12 VCH-specific safety questions so that we can compare our 2013 scores against our 2011 scores.
- 3 provincial safety questions. This is the first time other BC health organizations will include safety-specific questions
- 2 additional questions that ask about actions that took place, in your view, as a result of the previous survey
- Paper and online options for completing the survey
Another very important adjustment will be made to the 2013 survey: in 2011, VCH surveyed some physicians. In 2013, all physicians with privileges at VCH will be invited to complete the same survey as our staff. “This is a real opportunity for us to better understand both engagement and safety from the perspective of our clinical teams as a whole. That means managers, staff and physicians responding via the same set of questions,” says Dr Patrick O’Connor, VP Medicine, Quality & Safety.
As we are six months away from our next survey, now is a good time to review your team’s action plans, discuss your achievements, and plan any progress you’d like to make before June 2013 and our next survey.
