Dr. Bruce Long appointed Chief Medical information Officer, VCH and PHC
Today VCH and PHC are pleased confirm the appointment of Dr. Bruce Long as Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) at both of our organizations. The CMIO position will be critical to the success of the Clinical and Systems Transformation (CST) initiative. In this role, Bruce will provide strategic leadership to engage medical staff as we embark on the implementation of the CERNER electronic health record platform across VCH, PHC and PHSA.
Bruce has been a practitioner on the North Shore for over 35 years, with the last 23 years as an Emergency physician. He has held a series of leadership roles including Department Head of the Emergency Department (ED) at LGH for over 10 years. In addition, Bruce has been actively involved in clinical education and holds a Clinical Associate Professor role in the Department of Emergency Medicine at UBC.
Bruce has led numerous strategic initiatives that have effected transformative changes in care and enhanced patient outcomes. One of these was the renovation of the LGH Emergency Department, doubling the capacity of the department and converting it from a paper-based environment to a fully electronic clinical information system. Bruce’s experience leading physicians and clinicians to adopt Care Provider Order Entry (CPOE) and clinical documentation will serve him well in this new role as he engages our physician groups across PHC and VCH in the design, implementation and adoption of standardized best practice solutions.
Bruce begins as CMIO effective immediately, but will assume full responsibilities in early May as his clinical commitments are reduced.
