Integration of Analytical Microbiology Services at Fraser Health sites

Lower Mainland Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (which operates labs across VCH) has launched a process to integrate analytical microbiology services from four Fraser Health sites in a dedicated, state-of-the-art centre in the new Surrey Memorial Hospital tower.

Integration will proceed in phases; the first phase will see the microbiology staff and services of the Burnaby Hospital (BUH) move to Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH). In later phases, the staff and services of Abbotsford Regional and Surrey Memorial Hospital will be integrated with those from BUH and RCH in the new microbiology laboratory.

The phased approach will allow for continuing evaluation of integration processes.  The new model will support the retention of skilled staff, facilitate future recruitment efforts and provide opportunities for employees to share expertise and learn from each other.
