Nominate a Commuter of the Year by October 30
Do you use green transportation to commute to work? Maybe you’re impressed by a colleague who chooses sustainable commuting like public transit, carpooling, biking or walking to work…even when it’s difficult, a long distance, or simply bad weather.
A nomination may be submitted by any person – you can nominate yourself or one of your co-workers from VCH.

Kudos
Every year, Bett Lauridsen, Transportation Coordinator at the Commuter Centre in Vancouver General Hospital, promotes and collects nominations for the Commuter of the Year.
Bett works to promote healthier commuting patterns for staff. Her goal is to get people to walk, bike, bus, shuttle, or car pool to work. She hopes to support behaviour change with many different initiatives – this yearly “Commuter of the Year Award” is a way to recognize the efforts of those who leave their car at home.

Read how other health care staff are greening their commutes:
- Maria Gunkel, microbiologist at the VGH, and Tracey Swallow, facilitator, imPROVE at PHSA, were recognized at the VCH 2012 ‘Commuter of the Year’ award ceremony for their outstanding long-term dedication to carbon neutral commuting.
- John Burgess – our Commuter of the Year in 2010; chosen because of his impressive daily commute from central Surrey to Vancouver, using a combination of bicycle and SkyTrain.
- Anne Beer – at 57, Vancouver Coastal Health Social Work Case Manager Anne Beer took to the city streets and started biking to work for the first time in her 32-year career with VCH.
- Katie Hume – a Community Developer with Vancouver Coastal Health, who changed her commuting habits after reading some of these stories on the GreenCare site and realizing that it was easier to get on her bike than she thought.
