Product recall: Surge protection devices
A product recall has been issued for Schneider Electric APC Surge Protection devices (powerbars), as some APC devices manufactured before 2003 can overheat under abnormal electrical conditions, posing a possible fire risk to persons and property. The 7 Series (7-plug) Surge Strip and the 8 Series (8-plug) Surge Strip are impacted. Please unplug and do not use the surge strip if you have one of the recalled products. How do I know if I have a recalled surge protector? The attached product recall notice includes a list of affected model numbers, and instructions on how to determine if your surge protector is included in the recall. What do I do if my surge protector has been recalled? If you are in possession of a recalled surge protector, follow the instructions on the attached product recall notice to submit a claim for a replacement item. Please allow 12 weeks for processing. Please note: there will be no financial reimbursement or credit issues from the manufacturer (APC/Schneider Electric). What if I can’t wait 12 weeks for a replacement? If you are not able to wait for the 12 weeks for processing and you need immediate replacement, ordering information and instructions for alternative replacements is available in the product recall notice. You may proceed with both online claim and purchase of replacement powerbars. Please note that you will not be reimbursed for the additional purchased items. How should I get rid of the recalled surge protector? For disposal of the affected products, please send them to your Plant Services or Maintenance department. They will help ensure that the surge strip will be taken out of service and properly disposed of. For all non-facility type locations, please ensure that the devices are taken out of service and properly disposed of. Have questions?
