Sedin Corner exciting for Vancouver children with hearing impairment

On Friday Dec 13, 2013, 10 very excited hearing-impaired children and 4 adult chaperones attended a Vancouver Canucks game as guests of the Sedin family.  Daniel and Henrik Sedin and their families support programs in BC in the areas of children’s health and education,  and family wellness with their Sedin Corner, which provides groups with the opportunity to experience a Vancouver Canucks game from a luxury suite.

The Vancouver Community Audiology Centre (VCH) applied successfully for this event as part of their ongoing Peer Support Program for School-aged Children with Hearing Impairment.  Most school-aged children who wear hearing aids are mainstreamed in their neighborhood schools and don’t get many opportunities to socialize with other children with hearing impairment.  Studies show that peer support helps children feel more comfortable about wearing their hearing aids.  We hope that peer support events such as this one provide the children with fun experiences and lasting friendships.

Highlights of the evening included meeting Fin the Whale during the 2nd period, giving the Canucks a big cheer on the big screen, watching the Canucks win the game and meeting the Sedin brothers after the game.

We would like to thank the Sedins and their family for this awesome opportunity, as well as the welcoming staff at Roger’s Arena for taking such great care of us.  Also our thanks go to Vancouver Community Audiology manager Radhika Bhagat and Richard Singleton, Vancouver Community Director of Client Relations and Risk Management for their support of this event!
