Moving forward

We’re happy to announce some good news about the Pearson-Dogwood redevelopment project. This is a long-term initiative that both VCH staff and many of our current clients care about deeply, so we have cause to celebrate that yesterday (February 5), the policy statement motion for the Pearson Dogwood redevelopment was unanimously accepted by the City of Vancouver.

This means VCH can now move ahead to the rezoning phase of the project, which will benefit George Pearson and Dogwood residents as well as the entire surrounding community.

At yesterday’s city council meeting, VCH Chief Operating Officer Mary Ackenhusen gave a presentation, which was seen by Board Chair Kip Woodward, VCH CEO Dr. David Ostrow, as well as disabilities group advocates and former Pearson residents. We were heartened by the many speakers who came out in favour of our vision for the Pearson-Dogwood lands.

The Pearson–Dogwood Redevelopment project aspires to create a complete community, which will offer a range of residential living options from housing with support options to meet the varied and complex care needs of adults with disabilities, and a new complex care facility on the site. There also will be affordable rental and market housing.

While we still have a long way to go, we appreciate the efforts of everyone who helped get us to this important milestone.
