Shannon Leonard awarded 2014 Patricia Aiken-O’Neill Scholarship
Congratulations to Shannon Leonard on being awarded the 2014 Patricia Aiken-O’Neill Scholarship. This merit-based scholarship is awarded by the Eye Bank Association of America to an individual for their service and dedication to eye banking.
It is for the depth of Shannon’s commitment to eye banking, which culminated in a steady increase in eye donation numbers, and for her collaboration with other donation agencies that convinced the EBAA selection committee that she is exactly the kind of eye bank staff member that the scholarship is intended to recognize. As the Donor Development Liaison for the Eye Bank of BC Shannon provides education about eye donation and promotes public awareness through social media and public appearances.
Shannon says her role at the Eye Bank is incredibly rewarding. Working in collaboration with the dedicated team at the eye bank, she sees families and individuals guided through the eye donation process resulting in the gift of sight being given to hundreds of British Columbians every year.
The scholarship provides Shannon with the funding to attend this year’s EBBA Annual Meeting in Portland, Oregon.
