Clean Commuter Challenge starts next week!
So far, we’ve got 32 teams, and over 300 people signed up for this years Clean Commuter Challenge . With ‘Andy’s Green, Mean L&D Machine’ going head to head with ‘Annie ‘s Mean, Green L&D Machine’, as well as the ‘Killer Bees’ and ‘PSBC Clean Air Collaborators’ and ‘Super People Against Smog (SPAS)’.
Have you created your team?
Last week, the ‘To Cool 4 Cars’ team issued a challenge to others in their workplace. You can read about the friendly competition here: www.bcgreencare.ca/catch-us-if-you-can
This week, we hear that the ‘520 Meerkat Colony’ fancy themselves as the top cats!
The team is made up of folks from Capital Projects and Planners in Facilities Management.
They refer to themselves as Avoiders, meaning that they already have pretty clean and active commutes. They won’t be making a major change during the Clean Commuter Challenge, instead they will continue their existing ways.
Darcy Canaday, Project Leader with Capital Projects, had this to say, “The entirety of our team currently walks, bikes or takes transit, or a combination, to and from work, as well as in our personal lives. The majority of the Meerkats are already zero GHG commuters and those Meerkats who have ways to improve will strive to walk, run or bike a larger portion of their commute during the 3-week challenge.”

The Clean Commuter Challenge is for staff from PHSA, PHC, VCH and FH.

The Clean Commuter Challenge has 2-categories: Avoiders (those that already have a clean commute, who continue this over the 3-weeks), and Reducers (those that try something new and greatly reduce their emissions).
Whether you already have a clean commute or you are ready to try something new, there are lots of great prizes and incentives. For cyclists, walkers, transit-users, those that ride-share or carpool, skateboarders…and any other clean or active methods of commuting.
