Clean Commuter Challenge – Wk 1!
The Clean Commuter Challenge kicked-off on Monday, May 26th with some pretty kind weather and lots of friendly we’re-going-to-win-this competition!
Kudos
With close to 50 teams and nearly 500 staff from across PHC, FH, PHSA and VCH committing to the Clean Commuter Challenge, we’re off to a great start.
Who is in the challenge?
We have transit users, cyclists, walkers and people trying to carpool. Some people signed-up because they are already so clean and active in their commutes – known as Avoiders. Others got involved to see whether they can leave their car at home and take alternative options, even once or twice a week – known as Reducers.
A snap-shot of some of the teams:
• The Pediatric Anesthesiology Research Team from Children’s & Women’s.
• A team from the Functional Imaging (PET/CT) department at the BC Cancer Agency – Vancouver Centre.
• The Richmond Mental Health Team, comprised of case managers and rehab staff.
• The VGH CML’s that want to get moving this summer!
• A group of social workers, nurses and admin staff at the Vancouver Regional Clinic.
• A dedicated and green-minded team of lab technologists and pathologists at St. Paul’s Hospital Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in Vancouver
• A dedicated (and green!) team of research staff that support and advance women’s health research within BC Women’s and the PHSA, and across BC.
• A group from the IM/ITS office at City Square, that are serious about commuting and reducing smog.
And many more! Log-in to the GreenCare Community site to read the stories: www.bcgreencare.ca

All sorts of inspiring stories of folks who are feeling the benefits of riding a bike, walking or taking transit to work – not just on the environment but on our physical health and the health of our communities.
Kudos to all!
What an impressive group of Clean Commuters!

If VCH really wants to go green they should implement the nine day fortnight or 9.5 hour day four day work week, look how many cars would be off the road, and more family time.
