Pain BC’s Interdisciplinary Pain Conference, October 25th
Join us for interactive, practical, and evidence-based pain management education – for the front lines, from the front lines
Chronic pain presents a myriad of challenges to patients and practitioners alike.
Chronic pain is frequently under-treated and the complex issues that may accompany it are often inadequately addressed. Patients living with persistent pain report low levels of satisfaction with care received and outcomes achieved. They often feel invalidated, are suspected of drug-seeking and have their pain minimized. Many patients experience “the pain spiral” – inadequate pain management, decreasing function, fear/loss/grief, reduced activity, sleep problems, isolation, and depression.
Conversely, practitioners may be overwhelmed by the complexity of persistent pain. They are often ill-equipped to appropriately assess and adequately manage it. Practitioners report emotional strain in caring for chronic pain patients, including feeling frustrated, unappreciated, and guilty when pain symptoms do not respond to treatment.
Management of persistent pain requires a partnership between a person in pain and their health care team. Developing such a partnership requires increasing understanding of the complexity of persistent pain and increased skills and knowledge in assessing and managing it.
On October 25th, 2014, leading clinical experts and scholars will share the latest evidence on how to best confront the challenges of pain. This conference will focus on practical and proven strategies that can address these challenges, improving outcomes and satisfaction for both chronic pain patients and those who aim to help them.
