You’ve got mail – in the Love Bug!
At South Community Health Centre in Vancouver Community there is a great new tool for staff to appreciate and encourage each other – a Love Bug. The creation of Home Health Nurse Louie Dickens and Home Health Occupational Therapist Chelsea Bennie, this felt fabric lady bug is equipped with pockets to hold notes of encouragement (and even small pieces of chocolate!).
“I saw something similar at an Easter Seals summer camp when I was camp nurse,” explains HHN Louie. “It made me realize how much a small note – receiving mail – can make a real difference in someone’s day.”
The Love Bug has been on duty at South CHC since February 2014 and transacts an average of 2-3 notes a day. The instructions are simple: Think about someone that you want to send some love to. It could be somebody who has been having a tough day, or someone that really went the extra mile for a patient, or just someone that is awesome and deserving. Write a note, make sure the name is visible and put it in the pocket!

What a creative idea! I think this is a great way to show appreciation and support within our teams!
