Way to go UBC Hospital!
This month UBC Hospital was awarded Meritorious Status for its outstanding surgical outcomes by the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP).
It was one of only 44 hospitals globally to be recognized for achieving outstanding outcomes in nine key surgical measures including mortality, unplanned intubation, ventilator >48hrs, renal failure, DVT/PE, cardiac, respiratory (pneumonia), surgical site infections and UTIs.
Hats off to staff
We couldn’t have achieved this honour without the superb work and dedication of doctors, nurses, physical and occupational therapy, pharmacy, diagnostic imaging, lab and everyone on the team who dedicate themselves to providing the very best care for our surgical patients.
Quality improvement is more than just a measure or line on a chart. It’s about the dedicated health care providers and quality improvement teams who collaborate to problem solve and support initiatives that improve care. Thank you!
NSQIP is an important tool for quality improvement
NSQIP is a rigorous data collection program that 445 hospitals in Canada, the US and worldwide use to measure surgical outcomes including pneumonia, surgical site infections, DVT, urinary tract infections etc.
Staff use the data to benchmark their surgical outcomes against 445 participating hospitals , identify areas for improvement and collaborate on quality initiatives.
