Nominations open for Smoke-Free Excellence Award

Do you know a VCH employee or team who has shown exemplary leadership, creativity, commitment and innovation in the advancement of tobacco control services in our health authority?

Nominations are now being accepted for Vancouver Coastal Health’s Smoke-Free Excellence Award. Deadline is October 31, 2014.

Achievements involving one or more of the following will be considered:

  • tobacco cessation
  • prevention
  • protection from second-hand smoke

The recipient will be honoured at VCH’s Tobacco Addiction Withdrawal Management Course (TAWM) held on November 19th and 20th, 2014 and presented by Dr. Meena Dewar, Medical Health Officer for Vancouver.

Background

Previous winners include Dr. Milan Khara for his dedication and leadership in Tobacco Control throughout VCH and Canada, and Vancouver’s Tobacco Dependence Clinic for its commitment to offering much needed tobacco cessation support to VCH addictions clients. Last year’s winner, the fourth recipient of the award, was the Vancouver Acute Directors represented by Vivian Eliopoulos, Executive Director of Vancouver Acute & Paige Mettrick, Human Resources Advisor, Employee Engagement. Led by Vivian Eliopoulous, Goldie Luong, and Wayne Balshin, this team demonstrated leadership, commitment and tenacity by implementing a Smoke-Free Premises Policy Campaign at Vancouver General Hospital to address smoking on property.
