Take our kids to work day: November 5th
The first Wednesday in November every year is national Take Our Kids to Work Day. This is a day where Grade 9 students may be excused from school to attend work with their parent or legal guardian – a day to see what their parents/legal guardians do, what responsibilities they have, and get a sense of future career options.
VCH guidelines
If your area is participating in this program, please ensure you follow the VCH policy and guidelines below which are different from the instructions on the Take Our Kids to Work website:
- For liability reasons, the child coming to work with you must be the child or legal charge of a VCH employee, physician or contractor with VCH privileges. Parents/legal guardians may not bring a friend’s, relatives’, or neighbor’s child to work.
- Due to the nature of our work, the student experience should be observational only.
- For patient safety and confidentiality reasons, it is not appropriate for clinical areas to participate in Take Our Kids to Work Day.
- It is up to individual sites, departments, programs, and/or units (non-clinical areas) to decide whether employees and physicians should be allowed to participate. We must ensure we protect the privacy of our patients/clients/residents, maintain confidentiality, and keep everyone safe.
- Please check with your site manager as to whether your area is taking part and, if so, how.
