Promoting change in the community
The VCH Transgender Health Information Program (THiP) is an information resource hub that aims to support the health and well-being of trans* and gender-diverse communities in BC.
In addition to providing people with health and wellness information that is relevant to their needs, the program also does what it can to supports inclusivity and community connecting. In light of this, THiP is very happy to be hosting a health fair where community members and staff can learn more about resources and organizations involved in trans* health and wellness.
Join us on Thursday November 13th from 3 to 6 pm at the Robert and Lily Lee Community Health Centre (1669 E. Broadway at Commercial) for an opportunity to gather and connect. All are welcome to drop by and enjoy free refreshments and the chance to meet Transgender Health Information Program Staff. There will also be the opportunity to mingle and visit information tables stationed by over 15 Community Agencies and Service Providers all involved in trans* and gender diverse health.
Nikki Zawadzki works with VCH Prism which is a VCH education and capacity building resource that works closely alongside THiP staff to help agencies and other service and health care providers become more trans* inclusive. The workshop she facilitates support service providers in building their trans* competencies to forward best-care and safety in accessing essential services for people who identify as trans*, gender diverse or LGBTQ+. She feels the Trans* Health Information Fair is meaningful because,
“It really highlights all the great work that is happening in our community to support trans* and gender diverse folks,” she says. “While there are significant health disparities in the LGBTQ2S communities, particularly for trans* and gender diverse folks, there are a lot of local agencies stepping up to help close the gaps to health and wellness.”
She hopes lots of VCH staff and guests will take the opportunity to visit on November 13th to meet service providers, ask questions, socialize and get information on all of the resources available to the trans* and gender diverse communities.
Note that the event is wheelchair accessible. There will also be a special guest performance by local author Ivan Coyote at 4:30pm.
See you all there!
