The flu & visitors to our sites
Our visitors can be Flu Fighters too! Just as staff must observe the December 1st deadline of wearing a mask or having had a flu shot while in our facilities, so must the public.
To protect our patients, clients, residents and staff, beginning December 1, 2014, through March 31, 2015, all visitors to our residential care homes, hospitals, and community health centres must have had their flu shot or ware required to wear a mask. Flu shots for visitors are free and can be obtained at your family doctor, VCH flu clinics, walk-in clinics; or pharmacies. People planning to visit loved ones in a health care facility or who will take family members to outpatient appointments are also eligible for a free flu shot.
Posters in stands
Posters at entrances to all facilities will inform visitors of this requirement. Compliance is based on an honour system. We expect that visitors will wish to protect their loved ones while they are receiving care in our facilities. If a visitor chooses to not comply with the policy and informs the attending staff, this matter should be referred to the manager.
