Walk this way

How much do you know about walking? Do you know how important it is to your health? Your good mood? Improving your memory? Have you ever considered that the way you walk reflects your emotional state? (Which, by extension, means that the way you walk can indicate your ‘love’ energy – see article in Psychology Today!) And yet, we spend far too little time on our feet. Walking is in decline while the number of hours per day we spend sitting grows. So, to combat the evils of sitting, stand up.

And Learn to Walk. On Wednesday December 10th, you can do just that! Come to a one-hour interactive session and put your feet to the test from noon to 1pm at the Diamond Centre (Rm 9299). Try from a full range of walking, running and cross-training footwear to see/feel what works for you.

The session will cover the debate around the comparative benefits of running, walking and nordic walking (a great workout with poles). Come make sense of calories burned as they relate with the use of different ‘fuels’. Whether you currently do very little walking or if you are a runner who spends much of the day in a chair, chat with a footwear expert who will be there to help you make sense of the marketing around equipment choices. Enjoy a fun and interactive break in your day where you can meet some potential walk-buddies and new friends. Find out more about the WednesdayWALK initiative going on each week leaving from the VGH Commuter Centre.
