About Experienced Resource Nurses (ERNs)

Experienced Resource Nurses (ERNs) work at a leadership level and provide direct patient care across multiple programs while supporting and mentoring less experienced team members. ERNs work a regular rotation and receive their schedule in advance.

As Kathryn Embacher, the manager of the new Experienced Resource Nurse Team explains, “The ERN role provides an opportunity for mid-career nurses to hone their mentoring skills and share their knowledge with other staff on the units. It will also provide unit staff with a consistent source of experienced relief and mentorship support on Vancouver Tertiary and Acute Mental Health & Addictions’ units. This means additional support for staff and better care for patients.”

ERNT Open House

  • When: Monday, December 8, 2014, from 3:15 – 5:15 pm

This seems like a fantastic program that I would love to become involved with. Unfortunately, I have been working in the community setting as a home care nurse for 15 years and there has yet to be identified a need for this program in the community where I feel it is desperately needed given the broad scope of practice required for this role. Please keep this in mind while this program is evolving.
