Thank you for helping fight the flu!

Flu Fighters victorious!

The majority of you have had your flu shot – thank you! As of December 18, 82% of VCH staff, or 14,992 staff, have had their flu shot. That breaks last year’s vaccination rate record!

70% of medical staff (physicians, dentists, midwives and nurse practitioners) have been vaccinated. 49% of medical residents have had their shot.

If you have chosen to wear a mask – thank you as well!

It’s not too late to get your free flu shot. The vaccine is available in most doctors’ offices and pharmacies, family doctors’ offices and Public Health clinics. ImmunizeBC’s Flu Locator shows all flu clinic locations for staff and the public.

Report your immunization – VCH staff & residents

It is mandatory for staff to report their flu shot online. Visit https://flu.vch.ca and complete the form. The form takes less than one minute to complete.

Report your immunization – medical staff staff

VCH medical staff (doctors, dentists, midwives and nurse practitioners), fellows and other regulated health professionals (scientific & research staff, podiatrists, psychologists, denturists, etc.) can self-report through one of the following methods:

    ROBO calls at HOME !!!
    REALLY !!!
Talk about harassment and absolutely no respect for privacy !
VCH called everyone who did not get the flu shot at HOME !
I am not married to this job .if you want to pressure me to get my flu shot your more than welcome to bother me at work !!!
First we get a notice in our pay stubs , then in staff meetings it’s discussed ,then we get infection control to meet with us , then we get emails at work . Then we get a letter at home , then we wear a mask ( showing everyone that we don’t get the shot ) , followed by finger wagging . Then they call us at HOME !!
Sorry VCH you have crossed the line .
But instead of just being negative I offer a solution , on the self reporting web site put a tick box where we can tell you we have NO intention of getting it . simple solution or is it that you do like harassing us ?

We’re sorry the call upset you. However, the calls home to unvaccinated staff have increased rates of vaccination. Turns out that many staff had some difficulty reporting their shot online or didn’t know they had to report it.

We’re happy to say that as of today, 83% of VCH staff have had their flu shot (the highest staff vaccination rate in the province), while the rest are wearing masks.

We all work in health care for a reason and we have a greater responsibility to get immunized or wear a mask for that same reason: to care for the vulnerable. Every year, flu-related complications kill thousands of people in Canada, including many here in BC, most of them are seniors and patients in hospitals.

It’s a great idea to include mask-wearing on the self-reporting website and we have already suggested this to leadership for next year.

Thank you for the opportunity to address your concerns and for your commitment to patient safety.
