TELUS paging service ends on March 31, 2015
TELUS announced it will be terminating its paging services effective March 31, 2015. This means all existing TELUS pager users across VCH —approximately 1,125 in VCH—will need to transition to another service.
If you use a TELUS pager, here’s what you need to know:
– You have options. You can transition to a PageNet pager, use your VCH provisioned smartphone, or get a new VCH provisioned cellular flip phone or smartphone (upon approval from your manager or department head). Or, you can get rid of your pager altogether if you don’t use it.
– Your pager/urgent call number will likely change. Due to lack of portability for pager numbers, we regret to advise that your replacement device will use a different number. We apologize for this inconvenience.
– Paging directories will need to be updated. The Pager Replacement Project Team is working with IMITS Switchboard and the Medical On-Call Availability Program (MOCAP) administrators to ensure key directories and applications are updated with your new number. However, any local sources of this information need to be updated locally. You’ll receive a checklist when you get your new device.
– Pay for your own TELUS pager? Contact them directly at 1-888-644-2944 or email them.
– Request your new device ASAP. To ensure a smooth transition without paging service disruptions, we recommend you initiate this process no later than March 1, 2015.
Replacement?
How do you initiate your pager replacement? There is an online form on the IMITS Service Catalogue , which can be used for individual and bulk requests for group pagers. You must be on the network to access this site.
Note that PHC pager users are not impacted (they don’t use TELUS pagers). BCEHS has established a related project team to transition their pager users.
