Three Bike Friendly Business Awards for VCH
A proud moment for Vancouver Coastal Health last night; being recognized in HUBs Bike Friendly Business Awards and receiving three beautiful awards in the following categories:
• Most Bike Friendly Workplace
• Most Bike Friendly Building
• Best Bike Parking and Storage
Anne Harvey, Vice President of Employee Engagement with VCH and Kevin MacDuff, HR Data Analysis for Vancouver Coastal Health, accepted the awards on behalf of all VCH staff.
“We built the Cycle Centre at Vancouver General Hospital to attract and retain young, health conscious urban professional employees because we know we are competing with other industries and sectors for staff,” Anne said. “In doing so we built a wonderful community of cyclists who run the Cycle Centre and contribute to a vibrant workplace culture at Vancouver Coastal Health.”

VCH is bike friendly
Each year, HUB Cycling recognizes local organizations for their leadership and commitment to a more bike friendly future with seven awards. This year, VCH biked away with three!
A couple of highlights that demonstrate VCH’s leadership in cycle commuting support and advocacy:
• VGH Cycling Centre, which has 182 indoor bicycle parking spots, lockers, showers, towel service, a lounge and a bike repair room for maintenance and tune-ups: https://bcgreencare.ca/VGHCyclingCentre
• VGH Commuter Centre has been around for 19 years and acts as a contact point for staff interesting in active commuting, ride-sharing, or the shuttle service, which transports staff & equipment between sites: https://bcgreencare.ca/commuter-centre
• 1,079 total bike cages, open racks & bike rooms across VCH sites.
• Bike maintenance days, the Clean Commuter Challenge, GreenCare’s Commuter of the Year Award, a partnership with Bike to Work Week, Bike-Apalooza, a new bike fair to support and inform cycle commuters: https://bcgreencare.ca/program/active-transportation
• VCH has continued a bridging program to replace the cancelled Employer Pass Program (EPP) to support staff with transit (for when it is too wet to bike).
