VCH responds to chemical fire at Port of Vancouver
On behalf of the senior executive team, my sincere thanks to the VCH staff and physicians who were, and continue to be, involved in the response to the chemical fire at Port of Vancouver. Some VCH staff work at locations near the Port, and many more travel through the affected area to get to work.
Your health and safety
The chemical involved in the fire, trichloroisocyanuric acid, is a respiratory, skin and eye irritant. While the air quality in the affected area has now improved greatly, symptoms can appear up to 24 hours following exposure. Should you or a family member experience wheezing or difficulty breathing, particularly those with underlying lung problems, seek medical attention.
