Retired staff seeking to be rehired?

To ensure consistency of practice, VCH will wait to rehire retired staff until their seniority has zeroed out.

For example, the Nurses Collective Agreement requires a retired nurse to wait 30 days before he or she is rehired in order for their seniority to be zeroed. For other collective agreements, the rehire date may not need to be delayed and can be the day after termination. If you are unsure of your collective agreement requirements, please contact your manager who will consult their HR Advisor.

The benefit

The benefit of waiting to rehire retired employees is that new grads and casuals should have more seniority, enabling quicker access to casual work.

VCH definition of ‘retired’

Retired employees are defined as staff who are retiring from VCH and will be collecting pension. If a manager has already given a verbal or written commitment regarding your rehire date, please discuss this with the manager who will follow up with HR.
