Options for editing and creating your M*Modal dictated reports
Did you know you can edit your transcribed reports at your computer using electronic signature?
Lower Mainland Transcription Services launched eSignature at VCH in November 2014.
We have heard from clinicians that having the flexibility and control over making their own edits has enhanced their documentation practices to provide better patient care.
“I have found eSignature to be very useful. It eliminates the frustration of seeing a report that needs editing only after it has been distributed and needing to track down an individual to correct the error and re-distribute it again,” said Dr. Michael Copland.
eSignature Benefits
• Allows you to review and edit transcribed reports prior to distribution.
• Provides further flexibility, accuracy and accountability in managing transcribed reports.
• Provides a legally valid signature on the transcribed document.
How does eSignature work?
M*Modal transcribed reports will be routed to your e-signature inbox. This inbox is accessible through a web portal from the hospital or other locations.
• Reports are held in your inbox awaiting your signature before they can be distributed as final documents.
• You can view or edit the transcribed report before signing or rejecting back to Transcription Services with comments.
• You are required to sign reports within 5 business days as per MAC approved policy.
• If you choose to use eSignature, you must use it on all dictated report types.
• Documents that are not yet signed are considered preliminary. Preliminary documents will flow to the PCIS but will not distribute to CareConnect, or Excelleris or to GP/CC recipients until they are electronically signed.
• For non eSigning physicians – reports are distributed at time of transcription, “Dictated but not Read”.
• eSignature will trigger the distribution of the final report.
• You will have the ability to designate a “proxy” signer in the event of planned absence.
Front End Speech Recognition (FESR)
Do you like having the flexibility in creating your own dictated report? Are you interested in having no wait times to receive your transcribed report? Do you want to use state of the art dictation technology?
If you answered YES to any of these questions, front end speech recognition (FESR) may be of interest to you.
FESR is whereby speech is converted to text as you speak into a microphone at a computer workstation. Clinicians can review, edit and sign their transcribed reports at their computer all in one sitting if they choose, resulting in instant completion and distribution of the patient’s report.
Front end speech recognition is well suited for those clinicians who have a clinical/workflow requirement to have reports transcribed on a STAT basis, and/or those clinicians who wish to have full control over the creation, quality and distribution of their reports. One of the key benefits of using FESR is a high level of personal customization decreasing the total amount of dictation needed, making you more efficient!
“I’ve only been using FESR for a few shifts, and I was concerned that it would slow me down and take a long time to integrate into my workflow. However, so far I’ve found it faster, more organized, and more thorough than paper charting, not to mention more legible,” said Dr. Heather C. Lindsay.
An added value is the ability to use FESR in other applications on the same PC. This functionality would allow the clinician to place the cursor in any document, email, or other applications and just speak!
