VCH staff help students get dirty to grow interest in healthy food

VCH dietitians and public health nurses are helping students get interested in growing and enjoying healthy food. They are members of the Farm to School Vancouver Area Regional Hub (F2SVA) that oversee Farm to School activities in the Vancouver area. A Vancity grant provided the funds to hire a local company to create a beautifully shot and inspiring video about Farm to School initiatives in Vancouver area schools. Help us expand our work to get more healthy, local and sustainable foods into the minds and onto the plates of students by sharing this video with your networks.

October is National Farm to School Month: a time to celebrate the important role that Farm to School activities can play in promoting well-being and learning among students. From school gardens and local food at lunch, to farm field trips and more, Farm to School is an approach that provides students with hands-on learning about their local food system, and important life skills for healthy habits to take root. Farm to School also strengthens the local economy through supporting local farmers and suppliers.

The Farm to School Vancouver Area Regional Hub (F2SVA) includes members from Vancouver Coastal Health, Vancouver Board of Education, North Vancouver School District, Farm to School BC, Farm to Cafeteria Canada, and the Fresh Roots Urban Farm Society.
