Virtual fashion show winner from VCH
Vancouver Coastal Health’s Rebecca Grey wins first place in #BeSeeninDarkCoats virtual fashion show. The show has started a first-ever trend: shining a light on creative and stylish ways to make dark winter wear visible!
Entries this spring came in from as far as the Netherlands and Virginia, USA however the inaugural winner was from VCH. Rebecca Grey who won a gift certificate donated from Fluevog Shoes.
Rebecca’s dark coat highlighted with reflective accessories received the top score from our judges:
• Ruth Fluevog of Fluevog Shoes,
• Gordon Fung of VCH Employee Engagement,
• Paul Goodman of ICBC Road Safety, and
• Braden Touche of the Lululemon Lab.
Jason Cheung (VCH) showed a dynamite creation by attaching reflective strips under his coat collar. Heather Fulton (PHSA) attached bright lights and reflective striping …to herself and her dog! Annette Castell (PHSA) had reflective accents. Lorri Brotto (VCH) created a broach out of reflective material. Sheila Kennedy (PHSA) donned a reflective light. Honourable mention goes to Elinor Orsini (VCH) who accessorized with reflective stripes and toggles. Elizabeth Denton (Arlington, Virginia) wrapped buttons in reflective fabric and Marlies Schets (Netherlands) wove reflective threading into her scarf.
This was our first campaign, so spread the word and start thinking about these and other safe/bright creations that can help inspire added visibility to pedestrians. #BeSeen again around Thanksgiving!

Are you able to post photos from the fashion show for those who weren’t able to attend?

Thank you for creating this contest. As a driver in Vancouver nothing is scarier than driving at night in the rain in the winter and worrying about not seeing someone (especially when they choose to jaywalk) and possibly hitting them. I do notice the people with reflective clothing, lights and I appreciate the efforts they make to be safe.
