Overwhelming response!
After asking staff across VCH to submit their stories of patient and family centered care, we were overwhelmed with nearly 200 examples submitted over the past few weeks!
An honour
It was an honour to read these heartwarming stories about the incredible impact you have all made in the health and lives of your patients and their families. Together, these stories speak powerfully about the culture of care that is provided here at VCH, and they act as a reminder of the common purpose we have as health care providers – we are all in this together!
Here are just two samples of what we received:
“I stay at the patient’s side, hold their hand if necessary, until they are asleep”. (UBC Hospital OR)
“I started the practice of sending condolence cards to all of the families of patients who have died in our unit. Many families have responded, in turn, to say that they appreciate the gesture because it lets them know that their loved one was not ‘just a statistic'”. (VGH ICU)
