Webinar explores building cultural supports for Indigenous youth
The Aboriginal Health team invites you to join us for the first webinar in our spring series for a discussion with Emily Giguere, MA, Clinical Planner for Youth Substance Use and Prevention Services, about building services from the ground up to deliver Indigenous culturally safe care and supports to youth.
Overview of webinar
The webinar will explore the initiatives Emily has set up for Youth Substance Use and Prevention Services. These initiatives include hiring an Elder, establishing an Elder-in-Residence Program of their own, and arranging for all of the staff of the various programs run out of Youth Substance Use and Prevention Services to attend the Foundational Indigenous Cultural Safety (ICS) training including staff from Family Services of Greater Vancouver or Pacific Community Services staff.
We will learn about Emily’s motivations for taking such strong steps in setting up the services in this way and the values and outcomes she sees in taking this approach.
