I Made a Difference winners honoured at BC Quality Forum
The made-at-VCH I Made a Difference contest was showcased at the BC Patient Safety & Quality Council’s annual Quality Forum, February 21-23, 2018.
I Made a Difference, a contest where care providers are invited to share their stories about how they or their coworkers made a difference for patients and families is the brainchild of Lisa Stewart, interim director Clinical Quality & Patient Safety – Richmond, and Sheri Johnson, Social Worker – VGH. The response to the contest in the first year (2016) was so positive and inspiring, they decided to run the contest again in 2017 and invite the other health authorities to participate.
I Made a Difference has now been “adopted” by other BC health authorities and contest winners from VCH, Fraser Health and Island Health were brought together at the Quality Forum.
“Partnering with the BCPSQC, we were able to honor the winners of the contest from the three health authorities at the Patient Partner Breakfast,” said Lisa.
Isabelle, Brenda and Audra represented VCH, sharing their stories of how they made a difference and answering questions about the compassion that they bring to their care.
“It was truly inspiring.”
Lisa also presented I Made a Difference in a Rapid Fire session at the Forum with great feedback and interest from the other health authorities.
“After the presentation, I was approached by many people who are interested in our work and I noticed several tweets about it on social media. We already have another health authority interested in sharing the contest with us for 2018” said Lisa.
