The Province is opening new overdose “prevention sites” to respond to the opioid crisis.

On the heels of the highest number of overdose-related 911 calls ever recorded in B.C. last month, Health Minister Terry Lake said a number of overdose prevention sites are set to open in the Lower Mainland.

The province is opening six overdose prevention sites in Vancouver, Surrey and Victoria in response to an overdose crisis that has killed over 600 British Columbians this year.

Two new “overdose prevention sites” on East Hastings Street in Vancouver are already up and running, with more slated to open in Surrey and Victoria in the next weeks. The surprise announcement was made by B.C. Health Minister Terry Lake Thursday morning.
