In an act of notable generosity, the Powell River Health Care Auxiliary recently donated more than $1 million to VCH-Coastal facilities in the Powell River community. The money was divided into two contributions – more than $877,000 for the new complex care facility and $342,000 towards activities going on at Powell River General Hospital.
“For the Powell River Health-Care Auxiliary to make a donation like this is remarkable,” said Wendy Hansson, Coastal Chief Operating Officer. “The significant support we’ve received from the auxiliary is indicative of the strength of our partners and the type of community Powell River is.”
The auxiliary’s funding for the complex care facility will provide hundreds of items of equipment for residents of the new care facility – recently named Willingdon Creek Village – that will replace the Olive Devaud Residence. The project is currently in the design phase and will open to residents in spring 2015.
“This donation represents thousands of hours of work by so many of our members over the years,” said Lorraine Hansen, president of the auxiliary. “This large donation is an accurate representation of the commitment that our 230-plus auxiliary members bring to health care in the community.”
The $877,000 donation will be used for a wide variety of equipment including:
- Dining Room Rquipment – tables, chairs, fridge, microwave, etc.
- Lounge/Living Area Equipment – TVs, chairs, tables, lamps, etc.
- Resident Bedroom Equipment – wardrobe, cupboards, other furniture and window coverings.
- Servery Equipment – food preparation equipment, appliances, dishes, etc.
- Bathing Area Equipment – Bath tub, shower curtain & track, eyewash station, etc.
- Miscellaneous Equipment – parallel bars & recumbent steppers (OT/Rehab), bed pan disinfectors, commodes, etc.
