Kelle Payne: Coastal’s latest People First award winner
Kelle Payne is Coastal’s latest recipient of a People First Award, being honoured at the most recent True North Forum last week. As the Director of Clinical Quality & Patient Safety for Coastal, she’s well known to staff and physicians throughout our CoC.
As a leader here in Coastal, Kelle represents the type of person you would want to have take care of you if you were in hospital. She is one of the best examples of a person who lives life by the “golden rule” of treating others like you would want to be treated. She does this with her head, her heart and her hands:
- With her head – Kelle is a rigorous clinician when it comes to quality care and patient safety.
- With her heart – Kelle is compassionate and caring – whether it saving the life of a new mother and babe, or buying a cribbage board for an elder because that is what brightens this patient’s stay. She goes the extra mile and takes the time to support staff and colleagues.
- With her Hands – from wound care to window replacement, she is not afraid to be hands on!
Kelle walks the talk, is a truly visible leader and her stories help make sense of why we do what we do – providing great care. She is dedicated to her mandate of quality. She leads by example and always keeps patient safety and quality as her True North.
She has led the Coastal teams through a successful accreditation, has recently managed an overwhelming facility flood at LGH and provided an infection control lens to many capital projects here in Coastal.
Kelle often utilizes her life experience and strong faith to provide personal and compassionate leadership to the Coastal teams. She is our compass who keeps quality patient care at the forefront of our decision making.
