LGH staff and physicians band together to continue great support of Haitian health care

In just over a week, a team of 25 Lions Gate Hospital staff and physicians will be taking a “vacation” that they’ll remember forever, traveling to Haiti to volunteer their services to help the country’s residents who are in desperate need of high-quality health care.

The group of dedicated health professionals, spearheaded by RN Kristi Lange and Dr. Jim Kim, will make up a comprehensive hospital team, with representation from a wide variety of areas including the OR, ICU, PAR, Emergency, Pediatrics and Medical/Surgical wards.

The team will staff and operate the Bernard Mavs Hospital for a full week in early May (May 2 – 10) in Port Au Prince under the banner of Broken Earth, a non-profit group of Canadian healthcare professionals providing medical assistance to Haiti’s earthquake victims. Bernard Mavs is the same hospital that smaller groups of LGH professionals have gone to previously but this trip will mark the first time LGHers have taken over responsibility for the whole facility. The team will be rounded out with support from a few members from Royal Columbian Hospital and Alberta’s Children’s Hospital.

However, for those staff or physicians who are unable to make the trip themselves but would like to honour the team’s dedication and efforts, there is still plenty of opportunity to support health care for Haitians and make a donation to the trip to Team Vancouver through the Broken Earth web site.
