Coastal team learn how to “Get Me Out of Here!”
Earlier this week, a number of managers and directors within the Urban and Sea to Sky areas took part in an interesting course on evacuation techniques at Lions Gate Hospital.
Sponsored by Health Emergency Management British Columbia (HEMBC) sponsored the half-day course, titled “Get Me Out of Here!”, teaches various methods of moving patients without the use of equipment. The primary focus of the course is to help prevent injuries to the rescuer, while keeping the evacuee as safe as possible.
This is important training as, during a disaster, fire or other emergency we may have to transport patients and/or staff away from hazards. HEMBC will be offering additional courses later in the year for front-line staff, with more information coming out in the future.
