We want to hear from you – Accreditation Self-Assessments now open
Self-Assessments are now open until June 27, 2014, in preparation for Coastal Accreditation in 2015.
Self-Assessments are an important first step in the Accreditation process. They are online surveys that ask staff and physicians to rate how our services meet Accreditation Canada’s requirements. The information helps teams identify the areas for improvement to work on in preparation for Accreditation Canada’s site visit in June 2015.
Why participate in Self-Assessments?
It’s a powerful learning tool for ongoing quality improvement and a great opportunity to identify early on what we do well and where we can improve in preparation for the site visit.

As a Coastal team, we had great results from the 2011 survey when we achieved 92% compliance rating. The surveyors were impressed not only with the quality of care and service we provided then but also with our strong commitment to the People First focus, quality improvement and teamwork.

In order for the Self-Assessments to be useful, it’s really important that we hear from the people who touch our patients’ lives every day, particularly front line staff and physicians.
You’ll receive the survey link by email from your manager or team lead. They take 30-60 minutes to complete and can be completed in different sittings. All responses are anonymous therefore please be open and honest in your responses.
What’s changed?
In 2016 all of VCH will participate together in a health-authority wide survey visit covering the full continuum of care across all of the communities of care. Coastal Accreditation 2015 is considered a bridging visit and will focus on mostly acute care services. Standards include medication management, infection control across our services, as well as emergency department, medicine, critical care, perioperative, mental health, obstetrics, and device reprocessing. Home care is in scope in Bella Coola.
