Records management professionals honoured for their craft

Whether it’s excellence at work or after work, a healthy number of VCH staff are known for their enthusiastic overachievement, demonstrating professionalism and dedication to their chosen field.

One of these high achievers was recently honoured when Lions Gate Hospital’s own Donna Wong, a Decision Support Analyst and CHIM (Certified Health Information Manager), was presented with the Canadian Health Information Management Association’s Volunteer Award. The award is presented to one recipient a year who champions the profession through leadership, promotion and representation.

Records Management Director, Sharon Baigent, calls Donna a leader in the profession and someone who supports their profession across the country through serving on everything from a Code of Ethics Task Force to President of the Health Record Association of British Columbia. Donna has been both an instructor (at both McMaster University and Douglas College) and a student, having recently earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Management and is a Past President of the HRABC (Health Records Association of BC).

Another local standout honoured this year was Anatolii Marandiuk, CHIM – Coordinator of Records Management and Registration Services at the BC Cancer Agency, Sindi Ahluwalia Hawkins Centre for the Southern Interior in Kelowna. Anatolii was awarded the Promising New Professional Award for demonstrating outstanding academic achievement at the time of being a student, and displaying an excellent work ethic that embodies the Mission, Vision and Values of CHIMA.

More information about the CHIMA Pinnacle Award Program is available on the CHIMA web site.
