VCH-Coastal leaders drilled on Emergency Operations Centre use

Last week (Nov. 24), Health Emergency Management BC provided VCH-Coastal leaders with a 90-minute Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) training course, complete with tabletop exercises. The course, designed for SLT/AOC/Managers and ED Leaders attracted more than 20 people who were given training on topics such as:

  • Emergency Management Systems
  • EOC purpose and structure
  • Planning requirements, roles and responsibilities
  • EOC facility and equipment
  • EOC activities
  • Worker care

After the presentation, attendees participated in three tabletop scenarios (water line break, fire, and earthquake). This required them to make decisions on the activation of the EOC, the initial goals and actions of the EOC, and to discuss future actions.

VCH is committed to ensuring that we are prepared for disasters.  Throughout the year Health Emergency Management BC provides courses and exercises in Disaster Preparedness.   For further information contact David Reid – david.reid@vch.ca
