HOpe Centre cafe brings more than coffee to North Shore

The new Blenz Cafe located in the HOpe Centre is preparing for its official opening next week and will be celebrating the occasion with a variety of treats for customers.

The Blenz Cafe will be serving more than a great cup of coffee, it’ll be an example of the HOpe Centre’s vision for recovery-oriented practice in action, providing meaningful employment to people recovering their mental health. The coffee shop is a social enterprise, which means its goal is larger than turning a profit, it includes a focus on fulfilling a social mission.

The result is great coffee, served by great people, some of whom will be clients of the VCH Adult Mental Health & Addiction Program. The idea for the social enterprise originally came from the North Shore Mental Health & Addictions Family Advisory Committee, which took the lead on developing the café concept. This initiative is a partnership between VCH and the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA).

The official opening day events will occur on Thursday, Jan. 15 from 7 am – 4 pm and include:

  • 7 – 9 am   Coffee sampling
  • 10 am – noon   Hot chocolate sampling
  • noon – 1:30 pm   VCH staff buy one and get one free when you bring a colleague
  • 1:30 – 2 pm   Official cake and ribbon cutting
  • 2 – 4 pm  Tea sampling
