LGH Equipment Depot open house takes place next week

Lions Gate Hospital’s revamped and relocated Medical Equipment Cleaning Depot (MECD) is opening its doors to all who are interesting next week, inviting LGH staff and physicians for a closer look during an open house in their new space on 2W, from 11 am – 1 pm next Friday, May 8.

The MECD is managed on-site by Aramark Healthcare and focuses on detailed cleaning and storage of biomed fleet equipment to improve infection control practices as well as reduce clutter on LGH wards. Aramark staff ensure safe handling of reusable medical equipment and staff, identifying and separating clean and dirty items. This work allows clinical staff and physicians to reinvest time in direct patient care and improves the operational flow in acute departments.

With the recent move to the 2W space, there are plans to begin increasing storage of several new types of equipment beyond the mattresses, beds, mobility aids and commodes now cleaned and stored there.

Beyond improved access to equipment, reduced hallway clutter and a safer environment for all on our units, the program is also contributing to the reduction of healthcare associated infections (HAIs).
