Diners’ Club volunteers applauded for their help
During National Volunteer Appreciation Week in April, each of our 20 Congregate Meals Program volunteers received a small drawstring bag with the inscription: “You Rock”.
The bag contained some chocolates and the poem below which was read to our diners for an opportunity to recognize each one of our valued volunteers who range from high school students to seniors and have tallied 1034 community service hours in the last fiscal year and helped us serve 7500 meals to approximately 280 registered clients at four dinner sites and one lunch program site.
We always welcome new volunteers; should you be interested to volunteer for our program please contact Andrea Winterbottom at 604.904-6483 or sign up via the Volunteer Resources at LGH.
Congregate Meals Program (Diners’ Club) volunteers rock
As a volunteer for our meals program you are as unique as a pebble in the sand,
a stone that skips along the sea,
a rock amidst the forest floor,
a valued member of the team and so much more.
You don your apron and
Proceed to set the tables
then help the hostess to sort the take-out dish labels.
You greet our diners with a smile on your face
Then get back into the kitchen
to serve the soup as you race
To pour the coffee, tea and water for all the thirsty souls
Before you work on achieving your next goals
Of dishing out
the main meal, dessert or a second beverage cup
and before you know it, it’s time to tidy up.
As you banter with the hostess and your fellow volunteers
You forget about your worries, count your blessings and get cheers
From all those you have served, the diners whom you’ve grown to know
The ones whose days you brighten, the community you help to grow
With happiness and harmony through bellies filled with food
Your volunteering has a beneficial impact on people’s positive mood.
Your volunteer efforts create ripples in the sand and sea
and as we appreciate your talents, your support and care
we most certainly agree
that You Rock.
