Paul Myers Tower sign goes up on LGH acute building
If you haven’t strolled along St. George’s Avenue between 13th and 15th streets this week in North Vancouver, you likely haven’t seen the new sign adorning the Lions Gate Hospital south acute tower. It’s finally up – the Paul Myers Tower sign.
Paul Myers, as you may recall, is the humble owner of Keith Plumbing & Heating who in September donated a record $25 million to the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation. His gift is believed to be the largest gift from an individual to a hospital foundation in B.C.’s history. The donation will help support a future vision for the redevelopment of the LGH site.
In recognition of his gift, the LGH south acute tower was renamed the Paul Myers Tower. A bio plaque and door signage were installed in September. The tower sign went up Monday. His name will eventually transfer to a new building on the LGH site, whose location has yet to be determined.
Planning process continues
Plans for the redevelopment of the Lions Gate Hospital site have been under discussion for the last few years with the last round of work involving staff, physicians and health care planners producing a high level master plan in 2013. The planning process is being conducted by a project team headed by Leanne Appleton, Clinical Director of the LGH Redevelopment Project who, as former Acute Services Director for LGH is in a unique position to understand the workings of the site.
Extensive planning and consultations with staff and physicians across the LGH site have been ongoing since October with a goal of developing a concept plan that can be presented to the provincial government for their consideration in 2016.
