Staff Kudos: Praise from across the pond for LGH and 6 West RN
An English man vacationing in Whistler this winter sustained an injury that required a transfer to Lions Gate Hospital. He and his wife were so impressed with the care LGH staff on 6 West (ortho) provided that they wrote a letter of thanks, singling out RN Esther Park for her dedication, once they returned to the UK.
Here is their letter:
Dear Lions Gate Hospital,
I would like to thank the staff that cared for my husband on ward 6 West at Lions Gate Hospital recently. The staff were helpful and supportive to us both during what was one of the most stressful times we have experienced. Unfortunately, my husband sustained a nasty fracture whilst skiing in Whistler and was transferred to Lions Gate Hospital for surgery.
However, we would like to praise one particular nurse, Esther Park who went above and beyond her nursing duties. Showing real compassion, being very supportive and helpful in getting us relevant information, contacting the doctors and having to deal with our medical insurance company, Esther kept us updated on the situation and was proactive in getting us discharged to our hotel until our repatriation back to the United Kingdom.
I am a Children’s Community Sister and at the hospital I work at we have a special hospital award for those staff that are to be congratulated on the care and compassion that they have shown and can be nominated for such an award. I am not sure if you have such a system but if there is, then we would like to nominate Esther and congratulate her on her nursing care provision.
We hope that we can return to Vancouver in the near future and know that should we require medical attention then Lions Gate Hospital is a hospital that can provide good quality care and services.
Once again, thank you for the care that we received.
Yours sincerely,
John and Sharon Seton
