Celebrating National Nursing Week with tea & cake and a Sechelt radio interview
Anne Moonan-Woods, manager at the Kiwanis Care Centre, wasn’t going to let National Nursing Week (May 9-15) go by without recognizing the vital role nurses play at the North Vancouver residential care facility.
To mark the occasion, and to let the nurses feel the love, Anne personally delivered tea, coffee and cake to the nurses and aides at KCC earlier this week using a travelling refreshment cart. (The cake was provided by Sodexo.)
“I wanted to show my appreciation for all the work that they do,” says Anne. “The cart has been in operation at LGH for nursing week and it has been such a success, I brought the concept over to KCC.”
The nursing team at KCC includes the residential care co-coordinators, RNs, LPNs and residential care aides, who provide nursing care within a complex residential model of care.
“I can’t thank the nursing staff enough for their dedication and hard work,” says Anne. “They truly are a wonderful team.”
Meanwhile on the Sunshine Coast
Sunshine Coast radio station My Coast Now (Coast FM) also highlighted National Nursing Week by interviewing Sechelt Hospital RN Monique Roy-Michaeli, who started working for VCH in 1995. The interview ran numerous times on the radio station on Wednesday and Thursday.
During the radio interview, which you can listen to here, Monique’s passion for nursing shone through as she spoke about the changing roles within the field and the huge body of knowledge nurses draw on to provide the best care possible to patients.
