CST work picks up speed in Coastal
Whether it’s about education, professional practice or what kind of devices our care staff and physicians currently use, the Clinical & Systems Transformation (CST) Project is a recurring topic of conversation within much of the Coastal Community of Care these days. And in a growing number of cases, it’s more than conversations that are happening.
On the ground and hard at work
On top of a recent project kickoff meeting held to orient North Shore leaders with CST Project Team members, there’s been plenty of “behind the scenes” activity that is important to site readiness for Group 1 facilities.
The CST Professional Practice Group has established a Coastal working group to help lead the clinical transformation, including the adoption of common clinical and process standards and workflows. And for the last few weeks, members of the CST Device Team have been at LGH taking an inventory of existing technology and devices and getting to know the clinical environment in a more detailed way.
“There’s been a lot of work that’s gone into the project already but it’s exciting to have the on-the-ground work becoming more visible here in Coastal,” says Coastal Chief Operating Officer Mike Nader. “As a result, things will start feeling a lot less theoretical and a lot more ‘real’ over the coming months.”
Plenty to learn from local experts
With coordination and assessment work to do at each of the Group 1 facilities, more than a dozen members of the CST Team have relocated to a temporary new home in the LGH Library. Other team members are beginning to visit Group 1 locations to check out technology and hold initial meetings with local staff and physicians.
Localized planning will be key
Out of these discussions, local leaders will work with CST team members to help develop detailed plans on educating staff, physicians and other providers on a variety of items including new clinical practices, policies, procedures, computer basics, and devices in preparation for the new clinical information system and clinical transformation.
These plans will also be reviewed and signed off by the Coastal CST Implementation Working Group as well as leaders at each facility before they’re put into action.
Who is Group 1?
Group 1 will be the first batch of patient care facilities to undergo the transformation. It will entail more than a year of planning, training and adjustments as the teams prepare for a Spring 2017 activation of the new clinical information system.
Group 1 is comprised of the Lions Gate Hospital campus and Sea-to-Sky facilities. These sites include HOpe Centre, Evergreen House and North Shore Hospice in North Vancouver, along with Squamish General Hospital, Hilltop House, Pemberton Health Centre and Whistler Health Care Centre.
