LGH’s Ambulatory Services are on the move. Colette Shearing (Nurse Clinician JRAC/RASC), Sherree Alm (Secretary/ Booking Clerk – Respiratory Dept.), and RN Barb Pedersen are just some of the team members who will temporarily relocate to 2 West to make way for the construction of the new Outpatient Care Centre next to the gym.

Look who’s moving to 2 West at LGH

As Lions Gate Hospital staff are now aware, a number of programs and services have moved or are about to relocate to different areas within the hospital.

What may cause some minor confusion for patients is the relocation of the ambulatory services, which are currently located in the northeast expansion building next to the gymnasium. Most of them are temporarily relocating to 2 West in the LGH acute tower starting Monday.

The move is part of Phase 1 of the expansion, redesign and redevelopment of the planned Outpatient Care Centre (OCC) project that will enable care providers to take a more patient-centred approach than the current lay-out allows for.

What’s moving?

Effective Monday, June 13 th, 2016, the following ambulatory services will be relocated to 2 West in the LGH Acute tower for a period of about 12 months:

  • Joint Replacement Access Clinic (JRAC)
  • Rapid Access Spine Clinic (RASC)
  • Pre-Surgical Screening (PSS)
  • Pre-Admission Clinic (PAC)

Also moving Monday, June 13:

  • Employee Health to a temporary office behind Admitting
  • Breath Program and Respiratory Education to Seminar Room B
  • Diabetes Education to Seminar Room D
  • Security will permanently relocate to an office between Admitting and the Dogwood Gift shop.

Staff and patients will continue to have uninterrupted access to the gym throughout the OCC/Atrium redevelopment.

Patience appreciated

“I am very appreciative of everyone’s efforts to make these relocations go as smoothly as possible,” says Sean Parr, Director of Special Projects. “When it is completed, the new Outpatient Care Centre will give patients a better health care experience by improving access to care, reducing waitlists and enhancing their comfort and privacy. We will continue to keep staff and physicians informed as the project moves forward.”

 Moves on the horizon:

  • Respiratory Services move to 2 West by July 5 th.
  • Trauma Clinic moves into former Employee Health’s office in July
  • The new Chapel/Sacred Space behind the cafeteria will soon open. (Stay tuned for more details on its official opening.)
  • Project Management Office moves into 5W Ambleside in July

Signage has been installed to alert staff and visitors to the new service locations. Information Desk volunteers and wayfinders have been notified to help guide clients to their desired destination.

Signage is now up to help guide ambulatory care patients to the correct destination.

Background

Phase 1 of the planned OCC began last fall with the LGH Foundation offices moving. The redevelopment of the OCC is part of the LGH NOW Campaign, which also includes a redesigned atrium.

Two milestones were achieved last fall when the Foundation moved into new offices next door to Employee Engagement and construction began on a new Sacred Space/Chapel in the western end of the cafeteria. An unveiling date for the new Sacred Space will be announced soon.

Hoarding and construction of the new OCC is scheduled to begin in September.
