Mrs. Global Chinese Pageant winner Candy Zeng, runners-up and other contestants participated in a special tour of Richmond Hospital’s state-of-the-art Birth Centre in follow-up to a $15,000 contribution from pageant organizers to Richmond Hospital Foundation.
The generous contribution helps us further our goal to provide important medical equipment and programs in our community. With support from the Foundation, the Birth Center was completely renovated just a few years ago to include 15 private maternity care rooms and a six-bed neonatal intensive care unit. It was a pleasure to show that progress to pageant contestants.
The inaugural Mrs. Global Chinese Pageant, hosted by the Global Women Federation of Commerce of Canada, was held June 11, 2012 at Richmond’s Gateway Theatre. Organizers said the Mrs. Global Chinese Pageant is an opportunity for participants to showcase fashion, promote self-confidence, and share their views on the world. Since the incorporation of the Federation two years ago, it has fundraised for Richmond Hospital Foundation and other charitable organizations. The Federation has held more than 50 activities and forums, and assists new immigrants to become integrated into their local communities.
“It’s an honour to support a worthy cause like Richmond Hospital Foundation that makes a difference to so many lives in our community,” said Tammy Jue, President of Global Women Federation of Commerce of Canada and owner of Tammy’s Beauty and Slimming Centre. “It was wonderful for our pageant contestants and members of our organizing team to learn more about how our support helps grow services here in our community.”
As part of the tour, pageant contestants also inspected Richmond Hospital Foundation’s new “Wall of Honour”, a manufactured mural inside the hospital honouring those who have been instrumental in making contributions to Richmond Hospital. The wall, refreshed annually, honours individual, business, foundations and organizations for their philanthropic gifts made to Richmond Hospital Foundation.
Our Wall of Honour is one of the special ways we like to say “thank you” to those who contribute to help make Richmond Hospital what it is today and what it will be tomorrow. We extend our heartfelt thanks on behalf of patients and our medical team at Richmond Hospital for the support received from external events like the Mrs. Global Chinese Pageant.
For 25 years, Richmond Hospital Foundation has raised over $40-million to help purchase vital medical equipment, improve patient care programs, and upgrade facilities at Richmond Hospital.
